Mykonos - Area guide
For years, Mykonos, a small island in the Cyclades, has been the most cosmopolitan island in Greece. It is one of the most popular summer getaways for Greeks and tourists alike. It is a surfer's paradise, but it is much more than that. It is known as the windy island because of its often windy climate.
The area of Mykonos, which is also known as the "island of love", has some of the most exquisite examples of Cycladic architecture. The Chora -capital- is a shining example of Cycladic architecture, with whitewashed buildings with colourful doors and a wonderful place to walk around day and night. The main street of Chora and Faliraki is filled with shops, cafes and restaurants that stay open late into the night. As the main street of Chora and Faliraki is crowded with businesses, cafes and restaurants, it is a very lively place to walk. Chora is unique among the Cyclades.
An area of Chora called "Little Venice" is characteristic of Mykonos, with several bars and restaurants, as well as the famous windmills.
However, Mykonos is much more than just a capital city! The majority of the island's beaches are among the most beautiful in Greece. The island has beautiful seas and fine sandy beaches.
Finally, Mykonos offers a cosmopolitan lifestyle combined with Greek history. The part of the island overlooking Delos, a small archaeological treasure only accessible by boat, is included in the municipality.
