Spetses - Area guide
Spetses is an island in the Argosaronic Gulf. It is a tiny and picturesque island that is well worth seeing as part of a trip to the Peloponnese or a driving tour of the region. Mykonos is a beautiful island with great significance in Greek history. It is also where the Greek revolution began. Cars are not allowed on the island, except those with a permit. Local buses, horse-drawn carriages, scooters and bicycles are the most popular means of transport on the island. This fact alone gives the island a unique atmosphere.
Spetses has beautiful beaches, historical sites and delicious cuisine. It also contains aromatic plants and herbs that contribute to its natural beauty, which explains the island's Venetian name, "the island of perfumes".
