Santorini - Area guide
Santorini is one of the best known islands in Greece, and is one of the most popular destinations in the world. Santorini, part of the Cyclades, is known for its breathtaking caldera views and sunsets. Santorini's volcano destroyed the island's economy and culture around the 16th century DC, which explains the island's current appearance.
However, there are several other well-known settlements on the island, including Fira (the island's capital), Oia, Firostefani and the prehistoric town of Akrotiri.
Santorini has fascinating beaches, including the red and white beaches, which are defined by the colour of the sand. Several small islands can be reached by boat in just a few minutes and have an international airport.
